Deaf Man In The Shteeble
As I sat on the ground listening to the haunting tune of Megillas Eicha, I thought about the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash & our past as a nation. Where was Hashem? Where are the glorious days when the Jewish G-D was respected & revered? Where are the days when the Jewish People were loved by all the nations & the Beis HaMikdash was the center of the world?
Let's sidetrack for a moment. In Toronto (where I live) there is an older man, we'll call him *Daniel. Daniel is Deaf & Mute. He was never married, never had a job & rely's on handouts from his fellow Jews.
Approximately 3 years ago Daniel disappeared. I mean literally. It was as if the earth had swallowed him up leaving no trace. Even though I didn't know him very well, I missed his sweet smile. I asked around, but nobody had seen him or heard from him, & as it does, life went on & Daniel was quickly forgotten.
Now let's get back to Tisha B'Av. As Eicha concluded I looked up from my Kinus & observed the room my gaze fell upon the door. Suddenly the door opened wide & in walked Daniel his face glowing with a smile from ear to ear. He then proceeded around the room collecting change as he always did.
It is stated in many Chassidic Sefarim that one must learn a lesson from anything & everything he sees &/or hears. This is something I try to practice.
I couldn't help but wonder: of all the 365 days of the year, why did I have to witness Daniel's Grand Reappearance on Tisha B'Av?
After some serious thought I have come to this conclusion: In the days of the Beis HaMikdash we took for granted the great life we were living & the miracles we witnessed daily, Therefore Hashem put those days to an end & it was as if they had never transpired.
Now, almost 2,000 years later we are living in extremely difficult times, our world is falling apart & quite frankly, things have never been worse. The daily problems we are facing & the Tragedys we are constantly hearing about are Mind Boggling! When will it end?
I firmly believe that in these trying times when it seems that things cant get worse Hashem will step in & make his Grand Reappearance LeHavdil just as Daniel did.
As it is Stated: :ונאמר, והיה ה' למלך ה' על כל הארץ, ביום ההוי יהיה, ה' אחד ושמו אחד
Until next time, Peace!!!
